Disappearance Rocks Small Community

In April 2021, a 52-year-old housewife named Dee Ann Warner vanished without a trace from her home on Munger Road in Franklin Township. Her family was left in shock and had no idea where she could have gone. Her cellphone was dead, and there were no signs of her using her bank cards. Dee Ann was known for running her own trucking company, adding to the mystery surrounding her disappearance.

Intensive Investigation Involving Multiple Agencies

Lenawee County deputies took the lead in the investigation, with support from the Michigan State Police and FBI officials. The latter two departments conducted extensive searches to locate Dee Ann's body. Lenawee County Sheriff Troy Bevier expressed the impact of the case on the community, saying, "We’re a small community. A lot of people knew Dee, and so this really hits close to home. There’s a lot of people that this is impacting."

Breakthrough After Two Years

After two years of searching, officials finally made a significant breakthrough in the case. On November 21, 2023, the Michigan State Police announced the arrest of Dee Ann's husband, Dale John Warner, in connection with her death. Dale, 53, is now facing charges of open murder and tampering with evidence. He is being held on a $20 million bond.

Commander Praises Detectives' Work

Capt. Steve O’Neill, commander of the First District headquarters, commended his team for their tireless efforts in solving the case. He said, "I am extremely proud of the tireless work our detectives have put in to solve this case. With incredible determination, they have pieced together a very difficult case culminating with an arrest. This arrest is another step in our investigation, and we will continue our efforts to bring closure to the family and to find Dee Warner’s remains so that her family can lay her to rest."

Family Believes Domestic Violence Played a Role

Despite the arrest, authorities have not been able to locate Dee Ann's body. It has now been two and a half years since her disappearance. Her family strongly believes that she was a victim of domestic violence. The tragic case was also featured on ID's show, Disappeared, in an episode titled "Vanished in the Heartland," which aired on October 5, 2022. The episode shed light on the initial suspicion surrounding Dee Ann's husband.
