The Crime Heist Movie That Could Have Been

After over nine years since Edgar Wright exited from Marvel Studios' first Ant-Man movie, the British filmmaker has revealed some new interesting details about his original vision for the Paul Rudd-led movie.

Scott Lang: From Criminal to Hero

Wright described his original screenplay as a "crime heist movie," featuring Scott Lang as an "actual criminal." His intention was to show Scott's transformation into becoming a good guy and hero.

A Self-Contained Story

The biggest difference between Wright's version and Peyton Reed's 2015 movie was that Wright's screenplay was self-contained and didn't have cameos from other MCU characters. It focused on interlocking robberies and heists throughout, similar to Donald Westlake's The Hot Rock.

More Satisfying Redemption Arc

Scott Lang being an actual criminal at the start of the film, rather than already a 100 percent good guy, was also a crucial difference. Wright believed that it would create a more satisfying redemption arc for the character.

Legal Reasons Keep Wright From Sharing More

Although Wright signed a non-disclosure agreement when he left the project, he expressed that there is still much more he would like to say about his original vision for Ant-Man. Unfortunately, he can't due to legal reasons.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, directed by Peyton Reed, earned over $470 million worldwide. Despite its box office success, the film is considered one of Marvel Studios' lowest-grossing movies to date.

The Cast of Quantumania

The film starred Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/M.O.D.O.K., Bill Murray as Lord Krylar, Katy O'Brian as Jentorra, and William Jackson Harper as Quaz.
